Timezone advantages of a Lagos pod for US, UK, and EU SaaS

“Follow the sun” is usually a euphemism for “we will see it tomorrow.” Lagos WAT (UTC+1) is not that. It sits on top of UK hours and still covers a full US East Coast morning. That is how a pod amends a page the same day you comment — if you put reviews in the overlap on purpose.

Written for: US, UK, and EU SaaS teams tired of overnight vendor lag

The actual overlap (WAT)

Lagos 09:00–18:00. London almost the full day (08:00–17:00 GMT in our published model). New York overlap is 14:00–18:00 WAT, which is 09:00–13:00 Eastern. That window is the product. Put the weekly review there or you will invent lag.

How to use it without turning Slack into a firehose

One named lead. One channel. A daily or weekly review at 09:00 ET / 14:00 WAT. Async comments before that block. Same-day amends after. If your current agency replies next week, you are paying for latency.

  1. UK HQ: treat Lagos as same-day colleagues.
  2. US East: stack reviews in the morning; receive work by your afternoon.
  3. US West: you get a full factory day before you wake; still book a live hour if decisions stall.
  4. EU continental: same as UK with a one-hour slide — still live.

What timezone will not fix

A missing MQL definition. A brochure homepage. A committee that cannot decide. Overlap only compounds a system. Harbor’s 5-day time-to-asset needed both the factory and the clock.

Checklist

  • Pick a standing review at 09:00 ET or 10:00 London.
  • Put one named lead on both sides.
  • Keep files in a shared drive, not in email.
  • Require same-day response SLA in the overlap window.
  • Do not schedule “global” calls at 18:00 Pacific “so everyone can join.”
  • Measure time-to-asset, not message volume.

Common mistakes

  • Treating a Lagos pod like an overnight design desk.
  • Spreading feedback across five timezones and five tools.
  • Skipping the live hour because Slack exists.
  • Assuming WAT equals GMT and then wondering why someone is at lunch.

Benchmarks

  • Nearly full day — London overlap. Published WAT model on the site
  • 09:00–13:00 ET — NYC overlap. 14:00–18:00 WAT
  • 1 business day — Plan reply. Written 90-day plan after a brief
  • 5 days — Harbor time-to-asset. Needed overlap + a system

FAQ

Does daylight saving break the overlap?

It slides by an hour. The NYC morning block still exists. We reset the standing invite twice a year.

What if our HQ is in San Francisco or Austin?

You get a full production day before standup. Keep one live hour for decisions. Do not pretend it is the same as London.

How fast do you reply outside the overlap?

Async. The promise is same-day inside the window, not 24/7 heroics. Full-service retainers have a same-day SLA; Lite is 48h.

Is WhatsApp acceptable for a US/UK team?

If that is where you already work. Otherwise Slack. One channel. Not both plus email plus Notion comments.

Can we do live workshops?

Yes — in the overlap. Kickoff is 30 minutes. We will not book a four-hour workshop across three continents.

Where do I see this visually?

On the SaaS page timezone band, and in the International Launch Playbook section on using overlap on purpose.
